Patterns - Games
In game design, patterns refer to recurring structures or sequences that shape player experience, from predictable enemy behaviors in action games to narrative tropes in RPGs. They create rhythm, establish expectations, and can be subverted for surprise. Mechanically, patterns might involve puzzle-solving loops or resource management cycles; thematically, they explore repetition, order versus chaos, or the human tendency to find meaning in sequences. Effective use of patterns balances familiarity with innovation, guiding players while allowing mastery.
